Systems Thinking and Modelling
Understanding change and complexity
Prentice Hall 2000

Kambiz Maani and Robert Cavana

... Certainly the best introduction to our field that I have yet seen. Since we started recommending it to our local National Capital SD Group several members have ordered it... and my professional colleagues and I in the consulting game are now providing complimentary copies to existing and prospective clients. You have struck a wonderful balance between the "soft" and "hard" sides of ST/SD practice. Thanks and congratulations.

Just finished going through your book, and I wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. Delightful style, crystal clear, and highly accessible. I know a great many people find them an easy entry path to modelling, and I will certainly recommend the book to colleagues who teach systems thinking and SD [System Dynamics] modelling.

I recommend this book for students and professionals interested in gaining a greater knowledge of the systemic processes, which underlie a system, policy or industry. I personally apply this book as my guide 'bible'. The authors in this book cover both systems thinking methods and operational design and modelling. I particularly like the examples and explanations of the 'four-levels of systems thinking', the practical application of 'casual loops' and the case study examples of modelling operational design, using the ithink CD.

I use this book in my professional capacity, to guide planning and to explain complex issues to a wide audience. It is relevant for health professionals, lawyers, social workers and practitioners, students, policy makers, historians, small and large businesses and very effective if you are involved in developing services with Maori.
